In North Carolina, people who qualify for Medicaid must fall into several categories. They need to reside in the state. They also need either U.S. citizenship, residency, or the status of a U.S. national or legal alien.

On top of that, applicants need to meet the financial requirements, and must need insurance or healthcare that applies to:

• Pregnancy
• Parenting a minor
• Having a disability (or someone in the household having one)
• Being 65 years of age or older

Medicaid makes a determination of an individual’s eligibility after they apply.

The Health Coverage For Workers With Disabilities Act

It is also possible for a person to qualify for coverage through the Medicaid through the Health Coverage for Workers with Disabilities Act. This serves individuals who meet the aforementioned requirements and do not make more than 150 percent of the federal poverty level.

For individuals who already meet Social Security’s disability requirements, it is highly likely that they will also gain coverage through Medicaid. However, for those who do not meet said requirements, they must first prove that they meet the state’s requirements for disability when they apply.
