How much might you receive if approved for SSDI?

Home  /  Blog  /  How much might you receive if approved for SSDI?

When you become unable to work in North Carolina because of a serious illness or medical condition, you may be eligible to apply for Social Security Disability Insurance. Whether you are successful in getting these benefits depends on certain variables, such as what condition you have, whether the U.S. Social Security Administration considers it a disability and whether you worked long enough to make contributions to the Social Security system.

Per GoBankingRates, not everyone approved for SSDI gets the same monthly amount. How much you might get if the SSA approves you for benefits depends on several factors.

What Determines How Much You Get

How long you worked and how much you contributed while working in a Social Security-covered role helps determine how much you get in SSDI checks. In general, the longer you worked in a position that paid into Social Security, the more you should expect to take home each month. However, there are caps to how much you might get in your monthly payment.

How Much Most SSDI Recipients Get

In 2022, most SSDI recipients get between about $800 and $1,800 a month, with the average one collecting about $1,350 each month. The maximum amount you might collect in 2022 is $3,100 per month. Expect these numbers to increase in 2023 as a cost-of-living adjustment goes into effect, which is going to be the largest increase in the United States in more than 40 years.

Not everyone who applies for SSDI winds up getting approved. However, there is an appeals process in place for applicants who wish to appeal denied SSDI claims.
