There are two sets rules in Social Security concerning work. The rules that apply to you before you get Social Security are very limited and it means you can’t do much. There are some gray areas that you can try to work, but there are rules that you can earn too much or you can work too much and be denied as a matter of course. After you get approved for Social Security disability, the rules on work are very different. There’s a public policy to encourage people to try to work and the rules there depend on your situation. You can generally work up to 9 months before they take your Social Security away from you, but that’s after been approved. So, two sets of rules, one before, one after. You need to consult an attorney to talk about this. It’s very complicated. If you’d like to talk about it, I’d love to see you in my office to go over what the rules are and see how they apply to you.
